The WUF was established in 2001 by the United Nations to examine the major challenges facing the world today: rapid urbanization, climate change and policies. WUF9 will contribute to global mobilization towards advocating for the common vision on sustainable urban development in advancing on the achievement of the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The IAU was represented by Eric Huybrechts, senior architect and urban/regional planner.
