RGIS data
Arranged according to fifty or so themes which cover the following areas :
- land use
- the MOS (land use method), which is the RGIS's geographic system of reference
- administrative boundaries, various divisions
- demographic and socio-economic data
- transport networks
- environmental data, water and draining, facilities
- relief, satellite images, digital orthophotography
The RGIS and the Internet
The initial interactive maps of the RGIS were incorporated into the IAU îdF website in 2000 : cycle paths, catchment areas and regional satellite images...
The other areas of activity of the RGIS to be put on line shortly are: land use, waste, extracts of the 1999 regional digital orthophotography.
Hardware and software
- The RGIS is operated via a data service and 17 Unix workstations shared within the Institute
- RGIS has a total storage capacity of over 100 Gigabytes
- The software used is Arc/Info (15 licences) and ArcView (18 licences) of ESRI and Oracle of Oracle Corporation
- All researchers of the IAU île-de-France now have access to the RGIS via a high-quality Windows application which is run on their PCs
RGIS assistant, VisIAU île-de-France
To meet the requirements of its researchers, the IAU île-de-France has created the RGIS Assistant, a range of PC-based and user-friendly tools for daily exploitation of the RGIS :
- display and consultation on screen of more than 100 interactive maps (VisIAU île-de-France tool)
- automatic cartography based on around sixty themes (regional maps, multi-communities maps), statistical sheets on communes, CartoMOS, DensiMOS
- various information
These tools are also used to assist the dissemination of RGIS data to regional authorities and numerous other regional partners.
The "dedicated GIS"
- The RGIS consultation tool created by IAU île-de-France assists the formation of "dedicated GIS", covering specific themes such as habitat and accommodation, tourism, etc.
- The implementation of "dedicated GIS" enables solid partnerships to be set up and the organisation, creation and regular updating of specialised databases for the long term.
- The "dedicated GIS" launched in 1999 and 2000 (Habitat,Tourism) will be gradually complemented by geographic information systems devoted to other themes (Nature reserves, sports facilities, etc.).
RGIS partnerships
One of the founding principles of the RGIS was the setting up of partnerships with : regional administrations organisations planning departments... in order to share information exchange files, update and collect new data collectively. Agreements have been settled with :
- the regional departments of the state > Planning and Development, Environment, Industry and Cultural Affairs
- regional bodies > Ile-de-France Transport Union, Seine-Normandy water agency, etc...
- regional nature reserves > Vexin Français and the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse
- departmental councils > Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-et-Marne, Val de Marne
- state-owned companies > EDF(electricity), RATP (public transport), SNCF (national railways) etc...
Moreover, many research centres use RGIS files for studies commissioned by the Ile-de-France local authorities.
