• To propose general or sector-based regional planning and development policies and to design tools in order to implement such policies ;
• To ensure the smooth running of the research and prospective study centre on regional development supported by an interdisciplinary body of experts ;

Undertake consultancy and research assignments for various authorities :

• The Ile-de-France regional council,
• National and local authorities,
• State-run organisations,
• National and international bodies,
• Foreign national and local authorities..

A global conception of planning : Master plan, green scheme, regional development plan for tourism, landscape scheme, town-planning policy, free urban zones, etc.

Environment and sustainable development : Understanding different environments, green belt, nature reserves, resources, nuisances, remote sensing, etc.

Population : Demography, education and training, health, housing, leisure activities, culture, heritage, etc.

Economic : Economic fabric, employment, land, finances of local government entities, etc.

Transport : Trip management plan, transport and the city -accessibility for the disabled -, traffic calming schemes, impact on the environment,etc.

• Regional and local information, which is regularly updated,
• Processing and analysis of files from national or regional surveys (housing, employment, transport…)
• Production of inventories (natural resources, underprivileged urban areas, education, land use laws, health...)
• Upgrading various cartographic and alphanumeric databanks,
• A regional geographical information system (RGIS),
• Prospective works to reflect on future strategic issues,
• Management charts to follow up the master plan,
• Multi-disciplinary teams and grassroots men : Architects, urban planners,  specialist engineers (agricultural engineers, computer scientists and transport technicians…), economists, demographers, geographers, experts in the areas of law, the environment, health, documentation,etc.

In 1960, a government initiative gave rise to the IAU île-de-France in an effort to establish a master plan for the Paris Region. Since 1983, the IAU île-de-France has been affiliated to the Île-de-France Regional Council.
With 40 years of experience in the developpment of the metropolis of Paris, it has progressively become involved in a wide range of urban development and planning projects on an international scale.
